Rhododendron hirsutum x micranthum is a new hybrid between the European hairy alpenrose, and a Korean species. The plant has a delicate appearance - not like a typical rhododendron or azalea. In spite of its habitus, it is a hardy plant and a good grower, tolerates a certain amount of lime in the soil, and can even serve as a substitute for box, as the cultivar name 'Bloombux' suggests - it is tolerant of shearing.
