Description
Full view for the details, please!
The inflorescence of Astragalus alopecuroides is a fluffy ball with about half the size of a tennis ball. It remains that fluffy after flowering - until it's finally blown away by the storms of fall. The plant is native to the central region of the Alps. I haven't found any English name for it but its German name is Fuchsschwanz-Tragant ("foxtail milk-vetch"). In the garden, it is quite easy.
Astragalus (milk-vetch, goat's-thorn) is a large genus within the legume family and native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.
