Crimson Flag by Althytrion Crimson Flag by Althytrion
Hesperantha coccinea (syn. Schizostylis coccinea), the River Lily or Crimson Flag, is an awesome and quite easily growing bulbous plant from South Africa and Zimbabwe. :)

It's hardy in England and even here in the Western part of Germany. In other regions, bulbs can be lifted in fall and stored under frost-free conditions, like Gladiolus bulbs. In summer, the River Lily needs plenty of water and a good fertilizer in order to produce its gorgeously colored flowers later in the year. Highly recommended! :aww:

LOL mal schauen! :giggle:

Dieses Bild speziell ist nachts mit dem Blitz entstanden, so dass alle Objekte dahinter nahezu unbeleuchtet waren. Ein paar kleinere Reflexe aus dem Hintergrund habe ich dann noch herauseditiert. :)

I'm going to have to remember this, and see if I can purchase some of these bulbs, for I think they would look nice, if grown with our gladiolas  Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you very much, Alice!

You may find it in bulb catalogs (as "Schizostylis") but also in nurseries that are offering perennials. ;)

Yes, that's true, Edie - this only means 'less flowers', however, but not 'no flowers'! :D

Autumn crocuses are still flowering until Christmas, in February the spring species will start; first snowdrops have been starting some time ago, the hellebores are flowering from October/November and during December (that's why they're called 'Christrose' in German :) ) until March/April, and even some shrubs will bloom in wintertime. ;)
